(MERIDIAN)  Broadview University is supporting Hope’s Door in its quest to help victims of domestic violence. In addition to making a $500 charitable contribution to the Canyon County organization, the campus will hold its annual Fall Quarter Fun Fair benefit on Friday, October 12, to increase the donation with the community’s help.

Hope’s Door is an emergency shelter in Caldwell which helps families affected by domestic violence. It is part of the nonprofit organization Advocates Against Family Violence (AAFV). Hope’s Door, which opened in 2004, provides emergency shelter, food, clothing, and support for women and children who need immediate relief from domestic violence situations.

“This donation and the upcoming benefit are coming at a critical time for our organization,” Kim Ivacek, AAFV’s executive director, said. “Our transitional housing grant just ran out and we need emergency funds. Broadview University’s donation will be earmarked for the crisis fund—which provides things like gas cards and emergency supplies for people who need quick relief.”

Pumpkin decorating and face painting are popular “funtivities” at Broadview University’s annual Fall Quarter Fun Fair.

Each year, Broadview University opens up its campus parking lot and offers food, carnival-type games, and activities for kids such as a bounce house, face painting, clowns, balloon animals, bingo, pumpkin painting, and cookie decorating. Tickets are sold for a quarter and each “funtivity” costs a ticket. This year, there will also be an exotic petting zoo, a special appearance by Miss Rodeo Idaho Caitlin Thornton, and 96.1 BOB-FM will be broadcasting live.

“Last year, this benefit was held to grant classroom supply wishes for teachers in Joint School District #2,” Tiffany Morrin, the campus’s communications and community relations specialist, said. “Nearly 3,000 tickets were sold allowing us to donate more than $1,200 to help 12 local teachers.”

The Fall Quarter Fun Fair will be held at Broadview University from 3 to 7 p.m.—rain or shine.
